Students in grades 9-12 in public high schools in Texas can begin earning college credit toward a certificate or degree by enrolling in Advanced Technical Courses (ATC) courses. The Courses at a Glance documents that follow list the 2017-2018 approved ATC courses associated with each respective career cluster.

It is important to note that:

  • Not all ATC courses are available at each high school campus as individual high school instructors are to meet degree and work experience requirements in order to be eligible to teach these courses. Reach out to your school CTE Counselor to find out which ATC courses your campus offers.
  • ATC course credits can only be redeemed at participating two-year colleges.  Refer to the ATC Participating Two-Year Colleges document for the complete list of participating colleges.
  • Courses will not automatically be awarded onto a student’s college transcript.  Students must petition to have the course credits awarded onto one of the ATC Participating Two-Year Colleges which they choose to attend.  Refer to the Petition for Award of Advanced Technical Credit document for instructions on how to redeem these credits.

To qualify for college credit through the ATC Texas Program while still in high school:

  • Select ATC courses that align with your college degree goals as part of your high school graduation plan.
  • Complete ATC courses as a junior or senior to receive college credit. A college may elect to award credit for a course taken in grades 9 and 10, but the final course in the sequence must be taken in grades 11 or 12.
  • Earn an 80% or better in each course in an ATC-designated course sequence, including the ATC course and its prerequisite courses, to earn college credit.
  • ATC courses will be designated with the letter “A” to denote “articulated credit” on your high school transcript.

Ask your CTE Counselor about earning a performance acknowledgement for all ATC courses completed with a minimum grade of 80%. A performance acknowledgement on your diploma and transcript recognizes outstanding performance in a dual-credit course; on a college Advanced Placement test or IB exam; on the PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, ACT; for earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license; or for bilingualism and biliteracy.
