Gray Jr. High School began what has become a tradition of giving and goodwill. It all started as a labor of love for one of our teachers, Mrs. Michele Hinsley. Mrs. Hinsley began collecting toys the weeks before Christmas and organized the first toy drive for Vannie E. Cook Children’s Clinic.

As it turns out, Mrs. Hinsley had a personal stake and personal experience with Vannie E. Cook Children’s Clinic. Several years before, Mrs. Hinsley’s daughter, Emily, had been a patient at Vannie E. Cook Children’s Clinic.

Unfortunately, Emily lost her battle with cancer but Mrs. Hinsley was forever indebted with the kindness she and her family received while Emily had been a patient at Vannie E. Cook. Five years later, every Christmas we at B.L. Gray Jr. High organize and deliver toys to the children at Vannie E. Cook Children’s Clinic in memory and honor of Emily.

Today at 1:30 P.M., 10 B.L. Gray Jr. High School students, Mrs. Julie Carranza, Principal, and Mr. Bewley, the teacher who spearheaded this toy drive this year, will deliver the toys to the children at Vannie E. Cook
