Junior Caroline Salazar from Sharyland Advanced Academic Academy will be attending the Washington Journalism and Media Conference this summer to participate as a National Youth Correspondent.  Caroline is hoping to raise $2,600 to pay for the tuition and travel expenses.

The Washington Journalism and Media Conference is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Conference will be held at George Mason University—US News and World Report ranked #1 school to watch.

Caroline has been taking courses in journalism since her freshman year and has always enjoyed writing.   “I want to be able to see what it takes to be an editor, and I feel like attending this conference will really open my eyes up to what journalism really is,” Caroline said.

As a National Youth Correspondent, Caroline will be recognized as one of the most promising young leaders in journalism and will join top students from across the country to share in this unique experience. She will take part in educational seminars, meet and interact with industry leaders and be challenged to work with her peers through simulations and group discussions.

“I will develop my leadership skills and gain a greater insight into the issues surrounding careers in journalism and the media,” Salazar said.  In addition to this amazing experience, Caroline will also earn one college credit for her work.

Caroline’s participation in this conference depends on whether she can raise $2,600.00 in sponsorships. The conference tuition is $1,965.00 and her travel to the conference will be about $600.00. She will be investing all her resources to attend this conference and through her friends and family, she has already raised $350.00. That leaves her with a balance $2,250.00.  Tuition must be paid no later than May 15.
